Air Cooling System

Product Overview

Direct air-cooled condensers (ACCs) are critical cold-end equipment in thermal power plants, gas-steam combined cycle plants, coal chemical plants, and industrial power plants. Using ambient air as the sole cooling medium, they directly deliver exhaust steam from the turbine's low-pressure cylinder into an outdoor elevated condenser. Under the forced convection of a large axial fan, the steam inside the condenser releases its latent heat of vaporization into the air and condenses into water, which then returns to the boiler's thermal cycle. ACCs can significantly reduce power plant cooling water consumption, typically achieving water savings of ≥85%, making them particularly suitable for water-scarce regions.

System Composition

A typical direct air-cooled system consists of the following modules:

1. Air-cooled condenser body: dozens of standardized air-cooled units connected in parallel. Each unit incorporates a parallel-flow section, a counter-flow section, a distribution manifold, and a condensate collection header.

2. Finned tube bundle: large flat tubes (single row) clad with aluminum fins form the core heat-transfer elements of the ACC.

3. Fan system: large-diameter variable-frequency axial-flow fans, paired with windbreak walls and guide vanes, to supply stable cooling airflow.

4. Exhaust pipe: large-diameter negative pressure pipe, connecting the turbine exhaust port to the air-cooled island.

5. Vacuum system: continuously extracts ingress air and non-condensable gases to sustain high vacuum conditions.

6. Steel structure platform: supports tube bundles, fans and air ducts, and is engineered to withstand strong outdoor winds and seismic loads.

Bachmann's Core Air-Cooled Equipment and Manufacturing Capabilities

  • Core equipment: large flat tube bundles, exhaust pipes, steel structure platform and supporting components.

  • Annual production capacity: approximately 5,000 sets of pipe bundles, and 4,000–5,000 tons of pipes and steel structures.

  • Technology legacy: inheriting the design, production management, and quality requirements of the former Hamon team, and possessing 2 brazing lines.

  • In the past three years, the company has produced approximately 8,000 sets of tubing, of which about 90% were exported.

  • Materials and processes: carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum fins, hot-dip galvanizing, brazing, and fabrication compliant with a full spectrum of international welding standards.
